Career & Technical Education (CTE)

Students enrolled at Lavaca High School have the opportunity to receive recognition as a “Career & Technical Education Completer” and earn industry certifications in a variety of pathways. To earn completer status, the student must successfully complete a specified, sequence of courses and graduate from Lavaca High School. Upon completion of the requirements, the student will earn a gold seal for their permanent records from the Department of Workforce Education.

Colette James

FACS Teacher & FCCLA Advisor

Mrs. Colette James began teaching at Lavaca High School in 2023. She teaches Family and Consumer Science, Food Safety and Nutrition, and Life and Fitness Nutrition. Prior to teaching at LHS, Mrs. James served as a paraprofessional in special education at the high school from 2019-2022.

Mrs. James graduated from Greenwood High School in 2000. She attended college at University of Central Arkansas and obtained a Bachelor of General Studies in 2022. Mrs. James is continuing her education with Southern Arkansas University to earn a Master’s degree in the Arts of Teaching in 2023.

Mrs. James is married to her husband Keith, and they have 3 boys, Aidan, Bennett, and Patton. She is proud to be a Lavaca Golden Arrow!!

Johannah Riddle

Business Teacher & FBLA Advisor

Ms. Riddle began teaching at LHS in 2021. She teaches Business, Marketing, Journalism, and English. She sponsors the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club and advises the LHS scholastic press (Gold Stock Press). 

 

Ms. Riddle holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Central Baptist College in Conway, and a Master of Education degree in Teaching, Learning, and Leadership from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. Her priority as an educator is to prepare her students for college and careers while helping them discover their personal and professional value, worth, and uniquity.

 

Ms. Riddle is engaged to Eric Powers and they have two daughters, Josie and Bristol. In her spare time, she enjoys serving in her daughters' extra curricular organizations, being outdoors, and learning new things. GO BAND & GO ARROWS!!!

Landen Scoggins

Agri Teacher & FFA Advisor

Mr. Landen Scoggins began teaching at LHS in 2009 as the Construction Technology instructor. In 2014, he moved to the Agriculture Education teacher position. Mr. Scoggins received his Bachelor’s degree from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville and his Master’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.  

Mr. Scoggins and his wife Brenda live on a small farm in Franklin County and they have one son, Mason Scoggins.

Jennifer Teague

Computer Science Teacher & TSA Advisor

Mrs. Teague began teaching at LHS in 2019. She teaches Computer Science consisting of Mobile Apps 1, Mobile Apps 2, Mobile Apps 3 (Game Design) and AP Computer Science Principles. She is also the sponsor of Yearbook, Beta, and the Technology Student Association (TSA).

Mrs. Teague received her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, a Master’s degree in Educational Technology from Webster University and an Ed. Specialist degree in Principalship from Arkansas State University. 

Mrs. Teague is married to her husband, Josh.  They have 3 children - Tyler, Kylie, & Jalyn. Mrs. Teague is a Lavaca alumni and proud to still be a Lavaca Golden Arrow!
